According to the Montcalm County Undersheriff, Fruchey was trying to auger holes in the frozen ground to relieve flooding near his barn when his clothing became entangled in the tool. An auger tool is a helical bit usually used for boring holes in materials such as wood.

Fruchey was found by his wife at about 7:00 p.m. Emergency responders arrived at about 7:15 p.m. and found the tractor and auger still running, reports Fox17Online.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Undersheriff says that drugs and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the incident.
