NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC. (THECOUNT) — Ronald Glenn Nash II of Red Springs, North Carolina, has been identified as the FedEx driver killed when his rig caught fire following a violent crash on Interstate 40 in Castle Hayne, NC,. Thursday morning

According to the North Carolina Department of Transportation, the crash happened around 9:30 a.m. at mile marker 414 on I-40 West near the Holly Shelter Road exit in the Castle Hayne area.

Highway Patrol says Nash was operating a FedEx truck when crashed into the back of a tractor trailer. Vehicles were said to be slowing for an incident ahead.

The truck then pushed the tractor trailer forward into two other vehicles, sustained heavy damage and burst into flames.

Officials released the name of the driver Friday morning after family members were notified.

Both westbound lanes of I-40 reopened to traffic around 1:15 p.m. after having been closed for much of the morning, reports WECT.
