INDIANAPOLIS, IN. (THECOUNT) — Rachel McAfee has been identified as the suspect arrested in Indianapolis, Indiana and charged in the death of a three-month-old infant who was found deceased inside a vehicle Tuesday.

McAfee, 36, faces a preliminary charge of neglect of a dependent causing death after her daughter Emma was found dead inside a vehicle on Township Line Road near the Little Sisters of the Poor facility Tuesday afternoon, according to IMPD officials.

McAfee and the child had been reported missing on Monday night.

Authorities received a call from McAfee’s husband who filed a missing persons report.

McAfee was supposed to drop their daughter off with the babysitter and then go to work for a meeting. However, she never showed up, reported Fox59 on Wednesday.

A civilian observed an occupied vehicle matching that of McAfee’s vehicle description Tuesday afternoon and alerted officials who responded to find little Emma lifeless. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

McAfee, who was also found inside the vehicle, was transported to an area hospital for treatment of “cold-related injuries,” officials said. She remained hospitalized as of Wednesday.

The Marion County Coroner’s Office said an autopsy was pending on the three-month-old to determine the cause of death.

Anyone with possible additional information on the tragic incident should contact police at 911.
