BRIGHAM CITY, UT. (THECOUNT) — Kelly Benson has been identified as the Brigham City pedestrian struck and killed while crossing the street Tuesday.

Benson, 33, was killed by a passing vehicle as he attempted to cross Main Street in Brigham City Tuesday morning.

Lt. James Crapse of the Brigham City Police Department said the crash occurred around 6:37 a.m. as a vehicle traveled southbound in the outside lane of Main Street, reports Fox13Now.

Officials said Benson had just exited a convenience store on-foot near W 700 N & N Main St, in Brigham City, when he was struck by the southbound vehicle while crossing the street.

He was pronounced dead at the scene of multiple blunt force trauma injuries.

According to arriving officers, the driver of the vehicle remained on the scene and cooperated with officials.

Crapse told Fox13Now it was dark at the time of the crash and that the victim was wearing dark clothing.

Police do not believe speed or impairment are factors in the crash.

The investigation is ongoing.
