SPENCER TOWNSHIP, MI. (THECOUNT) — Joseph Scott Brown has been identified as missing snowmobiler found dead on Thursday.
Brown, 29, was operating a snowmobile around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday night, when he apparently fell through the ice into the lake.
He was located in about 60 feet of water in Lincoln Lake, in Spencer Township, MI, officials said in a report.
The Kent County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday they were able to locate Brown despite depth, and other conditions making it difficult for dive teams.
A snowmobile left on the ice, and a piece of clothing helped narrow the search area, reports Fox17Online.
A second man on another snowmobile was rescued by hovercraft after calling 911 while stranded on a floating piece of ice.
Crews used a hovercraft and a drone with an infrared camera to assist in their search.
Officials say that the use of alcohol or drugs do not appear to be factors in the incident.
They say that a creek that flows into Lincoln Lake keeps a portion of it from freezing over.
