PHOENIX, AZ. (THECOUNT) — Sheldon Ryan Begay has been identified as the pedestrian struck and killed in Phoenix overnight.

Begay, 26, was on-foot just after 12:30 am. near 32nd Street & Southern Avenue, in Phoenix, AZ, when for unknown reasons, he entered the roadway and was struck by a passing vehicle.

Witnesses told officers that Begay was observed stumbling in and out of the roadway before the fatal collision occurred.

Begay reportedly ignored several verbal efforts by bystanders advising him to exit the roadway. He was then struck by a southbound vehicle.

Police say the victim was pronounced dead on the scene of multiple blunt force injuries consistent with the collision.

The driver remained on scene and showed no signs of impairment, reports AZFamily.

No one was cited at the scene and no charges are expected to be filed.
