SUNSET BEACH, NC. (THECOUNT) — Paul Newton Simms, the Sunset Beach, North Carolina, man that was the subject of a Silver Alert, has been found dead, authorities are reporting.
Simms, 23, was reported missing after fleeing from Sunset Beach Police Department officers two weeks ago.
According to Chief Kenneth J. Klamar of the Sunset Beach Police Department, officers were notified just before 10 a.m. that a body was found floating face down in a golf course pond in the city limits of Sunset Beach.
According to a post from the Sunset Beach Police Department, Paul Newton Simms fled on foot from police at approximately 6 p.m. Wednesday in the area of the Ingram Planetarium. The post states that “Simms’ family provided information to police that led us to believe he may need medical attention.” source
No other information on the death was immediately provided by officials.
A Silver Alert was issued for Simms Thursday evening.
