WINNIPEG, CANADA. (THECOUNT) — Family members have identified, Chad Williams, of Winnipeg, as the man fatally shot by police Friday night.
Williams, 26, died following an altercation and subsequent police shooting in the city’s West End on Friday around 7:50 p.m., reports winnipegsun.
Police say they attempted to make contact with Williams near Sargent Avenue and Maryland Street after observing him acting suspiciously.
Williams departed the scene and officers again attempted to make contact with him when he allegedly displayed a firearm and was shot by police, Winnipeg Police detailed in a release.
Medical treatment was provided for the victim who was then transported to an area hospital in critical condition.
Williams was later pronounced dead of gunshot injuries.
As of noon on Saturday, traffic was still blocked on a stretch of Sherbrook Street between Ellice and Sargent avenues, as police continued to investigate. source
The case remains under investigations. The involved officers were placed on administrative leave as is standard protocol.
