LAWRENCEVILLE, GA. (THECOUNT) — Devin Hodges and Chad Carless have been identified as the teens who died in a tragic incident involving a firearm in Lawrenceville, GA, Monday.

Four boys had gathered in a Lawrenceville shed to inspect a handgun when the sidearm accidentally fired, according to Gwinnett County police.

Carless, 17, was struck and killed by a single shot. 15-year-old Hodges, the shooter, then turned the gun on himself, apparently distraught over the accidental shooting of his friend.

Witnesses say Hodges was showing his friends the gun when he accidentally fired it. The bullet hit Carless, who was sitting next to Hodges in the shed. source

Police arrived in-scene to find Hodges running between two area homes. He ignored police commands and fatally shot himself a short distance from the shed, according to the police news release.

Carless died at the scene of gunshot injuries consistent with the tragic incident.

The investigation is ongoing.

Police are working to determine who owns the gun and how the teenagers obtained it.
