Former MA Bradford Christian Academy Basketball Player Monytung Maker Arrested “AK-47, Handguns, Drugs” In NJ Vehicle

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ. (THECOUNT) — Cliffside Park Police say they have arrested a trio of young men after a Cliffside traffic stop yielded an AK-47 longarm rifle, two handguns and several rounds of hollow-point ammunition.

Monytung G. Maker, 21, of Manchester, NH, was a passenger in a pickup truck that was occupied by seven individuals when it was pulled over by police after midnight near Chevy Avalon at Anderson and Lafayette avenues, a few blocks from the Fort Lee border, according to a report.

Seven people were inside — including five in the back set, two of whom were sitting other passengers’ laps, Capano said. The windshield also had an obstructed view, he said. The officers smelled marijuana and asked the driver, Joshua A. Roy, 22, of Merrimack, NH, to step out. When his explanation for being in the area didn’t jibe, the officers had the other six exit the pickup, Capano said. As one of the passengers got out, he tossed a black Glock handgun back into the truck, the lieutenant said. Besides the weapon tossed into the Avalon, police found a bag in the truck bed containing the AK-47, loaded with 20 rounds of hollow-point bullets, Capano said. They also found another loaded handgun in the center console, he said. source

Maker and passenger Joshua A. Roy, Darrell Miller, 20, of Montclair were charged with having two bottles of codeine, pot and drug paraphernalia.

Roy and Maker were charged with various weapons and prohibited ammunition counts.

Roy, Maker and Miller were booked early Sunday into the Bergen County Jail pending detention hearings.

The other four were released.

Monytung, a 6’7″ former basketball player at Bradford Christian Academy, Haverhill, Massachusetts, who was pre-drafted at Franklin Pierce, said in June he had signed with Panola College.

THECOUNT.com has learned Monytung was also arrested back in February, 2018:

Monytung Maker, 20, of Manchester, was arrested at 1:25 a.m. on Feb. 15, 2018, on a charge of driving after suspension, as well as on an electronic bench warrant issued by the Merrimack District Court. Maker was released on $2,500 PR bail on the Amherst charge, with a court date set for March 15, 2018, at the Milford District Court. source

Some of Acevedo’s new teammates include Gob Gabriel, whose older brother Wenyan is a freshman playing for the University of Kentucky, Monytung Maker, a 6-foot-7 forward committed to Franklin Pierce, and Nate Tenaglia, a 1,000-point scorer at Tewksbury High. Methuen’s Jonathan Paulino is also on the roster. source

The investigation is ongoing.
