BATON ROUGE, LA. (THECOUNT) — Kobe Johnson has been identified as the victim shot and killed during an altercation with a pair of LSU players on Saturday in Baton Rouge, LA.
A pair of LSU football players, later identified as, running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire and walk-on linebacker Jared Small, shot and killed an 18-year-old Johnson during a street-level electronics transaction gone wrong, according to the students.
The players claim they shot Johnson after he attempted to rob them during the transaction, according to reports.
Johnson was later discovered dead in the back seat of a truck in the 2900 block of 68th Avenue.
Both Edwards-Helaire and Small were also in the truck and reportedly contacted 911 following the shooting. They remained at the scene and cooperated with arriving authorities before being hauled into headquarter for questioning.
Baton Rouge police said two LSU football players, who were identified by sources as running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire and walk-on linebacker Jared Small, were trying to sell an electronic item when suspect Kobe Johnson pulled out a weapon and demanded the two players’ belongings. source
Both players were released from questioning Saturday.
Attorneys for the players claims the shooting was in self-defense.
