ESSEX COUNTY, VA. (THECOUNT) — Mara B. Newcomb, of King William, VA, has been identified as the victim in a fatal Essex County crash Friday morning.

Newcomb, 28, was killed and a 4-year-old child was transported to the hospital following a rollover crash that occurred on State Route 619, near State Route 620, just after 9:25 a.m. Friday morning.

Virginia State Police say troopers responded to calls of a single-vehicle crash on eastbound Route 619 just after 9:25 a.m. Friday.

Newcomb was operating a Dodge Durango on Route 619, when for unknown reasons, lost control of the vehicle and ran off the road. The vehicle overcorrected before running off the road again, hitting an embankment and flipping over, according to the crash report.

“Newcomb was not wearing her seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle,” officials said.

Officials said Newcomb was pronounced dead at the scene of multiple blunt force injuries.

Additionally, officials said a 4-year-old passenger in child safety seat was transported to an area hospital as a precaution. source

Authorities said the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
