MEMPHIS, TN. (THECOUNT) — Memphis businessman Wei Chen has been identified as the victim in a private plane crash Thursday in Atlanta.
Chen’s plane crashed shortly after takeoff. Reports show the aircraft registered to a Memphis-based company.
Chen was the pilot of that flight bound for the Millington-Memphis airport. He is the founder and CEO of Sunshine Enterprise management.
A source confirms that Memphis businessman Wei Chen, who made international headlines as the first Chinese citizen to fly a private plane around the world, is among the four people killed in the plane crash. source
Well-known in the Mid-South, Chen also helped introduce China to St. Jude Children’s Research hospital and was affiliated with Memphis in May.
Three people Aboard have not yet been identified.
It’s not clear yet what caused the crash.
