ATASCOCITA, TX, (THECOUNT) — A teenage female is in critical condition after accidentally shooting herself in the foot while playing with a stolen AK-47 in Atascocita, Texas, Tuesday night.

Two teens are facing charges after deputy constables said a victim, 17, was playing with a stolen AK-47 and accidentally shot herself in the foot Tuesday night in the 4000 block of Wintergreen Drive, in Atascocita, authorities said.

Two 17-year-old girls and a 16-year-old boy were playing with the weapon

The gun went off when one of the girls attempted to put the rifle in her pants, according to authorities. She was shot in the right foot.

She was transported to an area hospital where she is listed in critical condition.

Harris County Precinct 4 Constable Mark Herman said the AK-47 was stolen from a residence in the 3900 block of Atascocita Road earlier Tuesday, reports say.

The teens initially told authorities that the victim was shot during a drive-by but the rifle was later located after it was hidden in a storm drain by one of the boys.

“Constables are seeking charges for unlawful carrying of a weapon and burglary of a habitation on the 17-year-old female who will remain unidentified at this time. The juvenile male was arrested and booked into the Harris County Juvenile Detention Center, charged with tampering with evidence and burglary of a habitation,” Herman said. source

Humble Independent School District officials said the girl is a student at Humble High School.

The other teen girl’s connection to the incidents is still under investigation.

Atascocita is a census-designated place in an unincorporated area within Harris County, Texas, United States within the Houston metropolitan area. As of the 2010 census it had a population of 65,569, according to Wikipedia.
