TUCSON, AZ. (THECOUNT) — Ryan Schlesinger has been identified as the suspect accused of shooting and killing a deputy U.S. marshal in Tucson, Arizona, Thursday evening.
Schlesinger, 26, opened fire, killing the unidentified deputy U.S. marshal, who was serving a felony arrest warrant at a Tucson house.
The suspect was uninjured in the incident and was arrested after a standoff at the residence.
The Marshals Service says the federal agent was the first deputy U.S. marshal to be killed in the line of duty in Tucson in 66 years.
Magnus said the Marshals Service was serving a warrant against 26-year-old Ryan Schlesinger when the suspect fired at them. Marshal Service personnel returned fire, but the suspect was not wounded. source
Authorities did not immediately identify the agent.
Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey confirmed the shooting on Twitter, posting: “I’ve just learned that tonight we lost a US Deputy Marshal from the District of Arizona. He was killed in the line of duty in Tucson. My deepest condolences and prayers go out to his family and all of Arizona law enforcement.”
