NACOGDOCHES, TX (THECOUNT) — Antonio Aguilar, of Center, TX, has been identified as the suspect wanted by police after fleeing a traffic stop and shooting at a Texas DPS vehicle on Wednesday afternoon.

Aguilar, 28, is wanted for attempted capital murder has been issued a $5 million no-bail bond.

According to DPS officials, a trooper attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a Cadillac SUV at about 1:40 Wednesday afternoon on FM699. The driver of the SUV fled from the trooper.

After a short distance, the Aguilar reportedly stopped his SUV and backed it into the DPS patrol vehicle, causing “substantial damage,” according to reports.

The trooper shot at the vehicle during the incident. The suspect then grabbed his own rifle in the Cadillac and fired it at the trooper’s vehicle, striking the windshield of the marked DPS vehicle.

Aguilar then fled the scene.

The trooper was not injured during the harrowing incident.

“Aguilar is described as a Hispanic male, five foot ten inches tall and weighing approximately 180 pounds. He has short brown hair and brown eyes,” stated DPS in a press release. source

In February, 2017, Officers with the Center Police Department arrested Aguilar in connection to allegations that he got into an argument with his girlfriend and shot at her when she tried to drive away with her 3-year-old daughter in a vehicle.

One of the bullets struck the woman’s vehicle.

At the time, the alleged victim told the officer that she didn’t want to fill out a statement, which resulted in criminal charges not being pursued against Aguilar, the affidavit stated.
