PARIS, KY. (THECOUNT) — Lucas Vanderpool, of Morehead, Kentucky, has been identified as the suspect killed after crashing a vehicle during a police-involved pursuit Sunday night.

Vanderpool, 33, died after crashed into a tree following a police chase involving an alleged armed robbery suspect Sunday.

Police said Winchester officers notified dispatchers in Paris that the suspect vehicle was headed toward the Paris, KY. Authorities said the vehicle was discovered crashed a short time later near a bend in the roadway in Bourbon County, Kentucky.

Kentucky State Police said in a statement that 33-year-old Lucas Vanderpool died Sunday night at the scene of the crash. The statement said officers in Winchester had chased Vanderpool’s vehicle in response to a report of an armed robbery, but backed off before the crash due to the high speed of the pursuit. source

Vanderpool was pronounced dead at the scene of blunt force trauma injuries consistent with the crash.

The crash remains under investigation, according to police.
