WINCHESTER, VA. (THECOUNT) — According to the Winchester Police Department, Officer Hunter Edwards was killed Saturday evening while responding to a call for a fight on South Loudoun Street in the city limits.

Police were notified at approximately 10:50 p.m. for a report of a fight. Edwards, 30, was called to the scene.

While on his way, Edwards was involved in a single-vehicle crash on West Jubal Drive, which is a few blocks away from the location of the reported fight.

Winchester Police Chief John Piper addressed Edwards’ fellow officers at the Winchester Medical Center in the early-morning hours.

“This is going to be a very difficult time for Hunter’s family and for each of us,” Piper said. “Take care of yourselves; take care of each other,” he added. source

According to a release from the Winchester Police Department, Edwards was employed at the department for four years and was assigned to the patrol division. Additionally, he was a member of the SWAT team and served on the civil disturbance unit.

Winchester is a city in northern Virginia, in the Shenandoah Valley. The Museum of the Shenandoah Valley recounts the area’s history, and includes the 1790s Glen Burnie House and landscaped gardens.
