DETROIT, MI. (THECOUNT) — The Detroit Lions typically have big name performers for halftime, but they stumped many when they revealed Mike Posner as their halftime show against the Chicago Bears.
Posner, from Detroit area, was still a relative unknown to many both in the Metro Detroit area and the rest of the country, and many folks took time out of their holiday to critique his performance.
In the last handful of years, the Lions have had tons of big names gracing their field in both the lead up to the game and at halftime itself. In 2016, Aretha Franklin sung the national anthem while Andy Grammer provided the halftime entertainment. Last season, it was Jason Derulo who came to perform. And in the recent past, Kid Rock has even taken over the stage at Ford Field. Posner was not such a name for the Lions. source
Detroit’s Thanksgiving Day tradition began in 1934 with a loss to, ironically enough, the Bears. For this reason, whenever the two old rivals get together on the holiday, it has an extra special feel. Other than the Dallas Cowboys, Lions and Packers, the Bears have played the fourth most Thanksgiving games ever with 34 total in their history.
