NASHVILLE, TN. (THECOUNT) — Joe C. Shelton Jr. has been identified as the victim killed after his vehicle was struck by a concrete block believed thrown from the Interstate 24 overpass Tuesday.
Shelton, 54, was killed after a vehicle he was operating on I-24 was struck by a concrete block believe thrown from a Shelby Ave overpass.
The rock landed in Shelton’s windshield killing him.
According to police, a block thrown from an overpass may be responsible in the a deadly crash in downtown Nashville on Tuesday morning and they are investigating to see if it was done intentionally.
The wreck happened in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 24 near the exit for Shelby Avenue just before 5 a.m.
According to the Metro Nashville Police Department, officials are working to determine if a rock was intentionally thrown off the Shelby Avenue overpass, hitting a Nissan Skyline. The driver, identified as 54-year-old Joe C. Shelton Jr., was pronounced dead at the scene. source
Police said the chunk of concrete was likely thrown from the Shelby Avenue Bridge.
Several other vehicles were involved in the crash. It’s unclear if anyone else was injured.
