DESTIN, FL. (THECOUNT) — Gabriela Lainez has been identified as the young mother found stabbed to death in the doorway of a Destin, Florida, residence Sunday night.

The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the fatal stabbing and have taken the victim’s boyfriend in custody over the Sunday night murder.

Kevin Ordonez-Garcia, 22, is facing a murder charge in connection with the stabbing death of the teenage mother of his son.

The child was unharmed in the deadly incident.

Deputies responded to a residence on Mountain Drive, in Destin, FL, around 7:40 p.m. Sunday in reference to a girl who had been stabbed and was struggling to breathe. The 17-year-old victim, later identified as Lainez, was found face down near the front door of a residence, a news release said.

Lainez was bleeding heavily and struggling to breathe. She was taken to Destin Emergency Room, where she was later pronounced dead.

Ordonez-Garcia was located a short time later covered in blood. He was arrested and charged in the murder.

Thankfully, the 16-month-old son of the couple was found unharmed, according to the release.

Destin is a city in northwest Florida, in the area known as the Panhandle. It’s known for its Gulf of Mexico beaches and many golf courses, as well as the Destin Harbor Boardwalk. Nature trails pass through the dunes of Henderson Beach State Park in the south, where the coastline is dotted with pine and oak trees sheltering wildlife.
