HAMILTON COUNTY, IN. (THECOUNT) — Justin Nance has been identified as the road worker killed after investigators say a semi driver failed to merge in a construction zone on a busy Atlanta, Indiana, highway Wednesday.
Nance, 32, was killed after police responded to reports of a pedestrian struck on Highway 31 near 296th Street, in Atlanta, Indiana around 12:40 p.m. Wednesday afternoon, according to the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene of blunt force trauma consistent with the collision.
Investigators believe a 43-year-old man was driving a red 2012 Kenworth semi northbound on US 31 in the right lane and failed to see the construction vehicles with arrow boards activated that were telling traffic to merge into the left lane. The driver was unable to stop in time at the merging point and rear-ended a construction vehicle with the arrow board attached. The impact of the crash forced the vehicle into a construction worker that was working on the road. source
The fatal Jackson Township incident remains under investigation.
