Tallahassee “Hot Yoga” Double-Fatal Shooting Suspect, Victims, Identified

TALLAHASSEE, FL. (THECOUNT) — Scott Beierle has been identified as the suspect accused of killing two individuals at a Tallahassee yoga studio Friday.

Florida State University, faculty member and student, Dr. Nancy Van Vessem and Maura Binkley, have been identified as the victims in a double-fatal, Tallahassee, shooting on Friday afternoon.

Binkley, 21, was a student at FSU and that Dr. Van Vessem, 61, was a faculty member of FSU’s medical school, according to officials. Tallahassee Police also identified the shooter as 40-year-old Scott Paul Beierle, of Deltona, Florida.

Beierle, 40, killed himself Friday evening after shooting four people at Hot Yoga, according to Tallahassee officials. He was arrested in 2012 and again in 2016 on misdemeanor battery charges. Court records show in both cases, he was accused of “grabbing women’s buttocks,” at the University Trails apartments where the suspect resides.

Capital Health Plan issued a statement praising Van Vessem, the Democrat reported.

Her dedication, caring, leadership, humanity, and experience made her one of the most respected, inspiring, and accomplished medical professionals in the state and country. Our hearts are filled with sorrow and prayers for her family. We all have been so blessed to have Nancy in our lives,” the company said.

(ORIGINAL STORY:) City spokeswoman Alison Faris confirmed that the shooter is dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound after the evening shooting. City Manager Reese Goad said four people were wounded.

Police are investigating a multiple-person shooting at a yoga studio in Florida’s capital city.

Google maps shows Hot Yoga has two locations in the area. Hot Yoga, Thomasville Road, Tallahassee, and Hot Yoga on Bannerman Road. It was not released which location the shooting occurred.
