TALLAHASSEE, FL. (THECOUNT) — Dr. Nancy Van Vessem and Maura Binkley, have been identified as the victims in a double-fatal Florida State University, Tallahassee, shooting on Friday afternoon.
Binkley, 21, was a student at FSU and that Dr. Van Vessem, 61, was a faculty member of FSU’s medical school, according to officials. Tallahassee Police also identified the shooter as 40-year-old Scott Paul Beierle, of Deltona, Florida.
Officials say Van Vessem and Binkley both died as a result of at least one gunshot wound.
FSU President John Thrasher provided the following statement early Saturday morning:
“There are no words to express the shock and grief we feel after learning of the deaths of Maura Binkley and Dr. Nancy Van Vessem. To lose one of our students and one of our faculty members in this tragic and violent way is just devastating to the Florida State University family.
We feel this loss profoundly and we send our deepest sympathies to Maura’s and Nancy’s loved ones while we pray for the recovery of those who were injured.”source
Authorities say there are still two victims in the hospital who are in stable condition and three more have been released from the hospital.
A motive in the shooting was not provided.
