HIALEAH, FL. (THECOUNT) — Maydelis Pulido, of Hialeah, Florida, has been arrested in connection with a hit-and-run crash that killed 79-year-old Hialeah man, Orlando Quiala, on Tuesday, authorities said.
Pulido, 23, was operating a stolen red 2007 Toyota Corolla south on East Fourth Avenue, approaching 17th Street, when she struck Quiala as he was attempting to cross the street.
Police said Pulido struck Quiala and then fled the scene, leaving the elderly man injured on the roadway.
The victim was airlifted to an area hospital where he was later pronounced dead of blunt force trauma injuries consistent with the collision.
“After working diligently day and night, following every lead possible, detectives were able to catch up with Pulido, taking her into custody,” Hialeah police said in a news release. “Once again we commend the tenacity and devotion our detectives have to our community.” source
Pulido faces one count of leaving the scene of a crash involving a death.
She is being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
