VALPARAISO, IN. (THECOUNT) — Joandrea Dehaven McAtee, has been identified as the Indiana school bus driver caught on video allowing an 11-year-old girl to drive the monstrous vehicle.
McAtee, 27, was taken in custody after being filmed allowing students as young as 11 years old to drive the large city owned bus.
According to police, McAtee allowed three students — an 11-year-old, 13-year-old and 17-year-old — to drive the school bus for short distances Thursday in rural Valparaiso, Indiana. There were other students on the bus at the time, some of whom recorded the incident. source
According to Indiana state law, McAtee could be charged with neglect of a dependent if a decision “places the dependent in a situation that endangers the dependent’s life or health,”
The student who filmed the video said one of the students allowed to operate the vehicle attended middle school.
McAtee was immediately fired by First Student, the company that operates buses in Porter Township, after the video and allegations surfaced.
