CALLAWAY COUNTY, KS. (THECOUNT) — Ariel Perkins, of Washington Park, Illinois, has been identified as the victim killed in a Callaway, KS, Interstate 70 crash Sunday.
Perkins, 21, died Sunday night after she used an emergency crossover to re-enter interstate traffic and was struck by a vehicle.
Upon re-entering traffic, Perkins was hit by a 2013 Chrysler 200, which had been travelling in the passing lane on I-70 near mile marker 147.8. Both vehicles veered off the side of the road.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol stated Ariel Perkins, of Washington Park, Illinois, was driving a 2015 Ford Focus westbound on Interstate 70 when she used an emergency turn-around lane to head eastbound. source
Perkins was pronounced dead at the scene.
The 17-year-old driver of the Chrysler suffered moderate injuries and was taken to University Hospital.
The fatal crash was the first for Missouri State Highway Patrol Troop F in the month of September.
