CINCINNATI, OH. (THECOUNT) — Della Riley has been identified as the woman killed by the family dog Wednesday afternoon at her home in Ohio, according to police.
Riley, 42, was discovered deceased by Cincinnati police officers who arrived to find a pit bull hunched over the woman’s bloody body, according to a Cincinnati Police Dept.
A 911 dispatcher first received a call reporting a person having a seizure, but firefighters arrived to find a dog attacking a woman.
Police who responded to the scene said Riley had been “viciously mauled” to death by the aggressive dog, reports say.
Riley had been known to suffer from seizures and an episode may have contributed to the animal’s aggressive behavior.
A child was inside the home at the time of the attack and was unharmed.
“(The boy) kept asking me ‘When’s mommy coming? Where’s mommy at? I couldn’t even tell the baby … it was so heartbreaking to me,” said an unnamed neighbor who collected the child during the tragic incident. source
Police euthanized the animal after it reportedly charged at officers.
The victim’s cause of death was determined to be trauma sustained from being mauled by the dog, according to Cincinnati police.
