ORANGE COUNTY, FL. (THECOUNT) — An unidentified worked was killed in Orange County following a freak accident near the Walt Disney World employee area, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office said.
Deputies said the victim, a 61-year-old worker, was standing on a grate when he slipped and fell into the large vat of grease.
According to deputies, two employees were emptying oil and grease byproduct from a semi-truck into a vat at a Reedy Creek energy facility located off of Western Way just after midnight Wednesday morning. The facility is near Cast Connection and Property Control, not far from Disney’s Animal Kingdom. source
The other employee desperately tried to retrieve the victim from the vat, but himself was overwhelmed by fumes, deputies said.
According to deputies, the fumes complicated matters, making a rescue impossible.
First responders arrived and eventually recovered the victim’s body.
Deputies have not released any names.
