WOMELSDORF, PA. (THECOUNT) — New Jersey man, James J. Gallagher, has been identified as the victim found dead inside a crashed and subsequently burned van Monday afternoon.

Gallagher, 63, of Middlesex, NJ., was found deceased by firefighters before 1:00 p.m. after they were called to the scene to extinguish a vehicle fire near Womelsdorf, the Berks County coroner’s office said.

Police and emergency medical responders were called about 11:45 a.m. to N Water St & Tulpehocken Forge Rd, by a witness who observed the vehicle crash head-on into a large tree and burst into flames.

Gallagher ended up in western Berks, which authorities say remains a mystery.

Officials were still trying to determine the exact cause of death, but the crash appears to have been accidental, officials said.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

He drove a transit van for AAA Worldwide Transportation, a limousine service in Clinton, N.J., about an 85-mile ride by way of Interstate 78 and Route 419, but the company’s vehicles didn’t transport anyone to Berks County on Monday, reports said. source

No autopsy is planned, officials said.
