ORANGE, CT. (THECOUNT) — Hoa Ngo, of Sacramento, California, has been identified as the man killed late Monday night while walking on Interstate 95 in Orange, Connecticut, in an effort to retrieve a cell phone he had dropped, say authorities.
Ngo, 34, was struck and killed at around 2:30 a.m., after troopers responded to reports of a pedestrian down on I-95 northbound, north of exit 41, say Connecticut State Police.
Troopers responded to reports of a crash near Milford SB Service Plaza, located on I-95 near the Connecticut Turnpike in Milford. Upon arrival, officers located an Acura MDX that had struck a person who was walking on the highway.
Ngo was pronounced dead on scene.
An investigation revealed that Ngo was traveling with three male friends in a pickup truck, towing a boat trailer, when he accidentally dropped his cell phone out of an open window. The pickup truck then stopped in the right shoulder and Ngo ran across the three lanes of I-95 to retrieve his cell phone. source
According to troopers, while walking back across the highway with his phone, Ngo was struck by the Acura when standing in the left lane.
Police say the driver of the Acura remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.
Charges are not expected to be filed in the case.
The incident remains under investigation.
