The first troopers on scene confronted the suspect after drivers helped get him out of the road. During a struggle, the suspect managed to get a hold of a service weapon that belonged to a trooper and fired two shots, officials said.

One bullet struck and killed Tyler Edenhofer. According to ADPS, Edenhofer had just graduated from the Department of Public Safety academy in May. He was an officer-in-training.

Dozens of law enforcement officers escorted his body to the morgue early Thursday. Some officers were out of their cars and saluted the medical examiner van as it passed by.

The second trooper is in the hospital in good spirits after taking a bullet in his shoulder. He’s been identified as Dalin Dorris.

The suspect is in custody but has not been identified.

Developing story.
