(ORIGINAL STORY) Houston Police announced Wednesday that, Joseph James Pappas, has been identified a suspect in the murder of a prominent cardiologist who once treated former President George H.W. Bush.

Police Chief Art Acevedo told reporters that an arrest warrant had been issued for 65-year-old Pappas, who investigators believe shot and killed Dr. Mark Hausknecht as he rode his bicycle to work on the morning of July 20.

The Houston medical community is reeling in fear after a doctor was shot dead while riding a bike in the Texas Medical Center on Friday morning.

Houston police said a man, later confirmed to be a doctor, died after he was shot while riding a bike before 9 a.m. in the 6600 block of Main Street near Texas Children’s Hospital.

A man wearing scrubs was riding his bike when he was shot by another cyclist. The victim, later confirmed to be a doctor, flagged down a passing ambulance for help as the shooter fled the scene. source

The doctor, who was not immediately identified, was taken to an area hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
