KALAMA, WA. (THECOUNT) — The several members of a family that were killed in a rollover crash on I-5 north near Kalama, Washington, Saturday evening, have been identified.
Oferia U. Nuusolia, 60, and Lokeni A. Nuusolia, 65, were killed along with a 5-year-old child, after a vehicle operated by Daryl M. Tuimavave, 36, crashed while traveling on I-5 near Kalama.
The dead are reportedly the grandparents of the child who also died. The driver, Tuimavave, is said to be the mother of the children and the daughter of the deceased.
A Washington State Patrol official said an SUV carrying 6 people — 3 adults and 3 children — crashed and rolled over several times. Tuimavave was driving with her three kids and her parents.
Five people in the SUV were not wearing safety harnesses at the time of the crash and were subsequently ejected from the vehicle.
Investigators believe Daryl Tuimavave became distracted by something in the car and when she refocused on the road, traffic had slowed and she overcorrected, leading her SUV into the median. Troopers said the SUV rolled at possibly twice before coming to a rest on its top. source
Tuimavave was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries. Two children, 5 and 7 years old, were airlifted to an area trauma center.
The Nuusolias and their 6-year-old granddaughter were pronounced dead at the scene.
Drugs and alcohol were not a factor in the crash, investigators said.
