PITTSBURGH, PA. (THECOUNT) — Joseph Martin, 35, was arrested after being released from a hospital where he was being held for evaluation. He was later charged with criminal homicide and aggravated cruelty to animals.

Longtime Point Park University professor, Ricardo J. Tobia, has been identified as the Carrick man found dead, along with a dog, in his home in Carrick on Saturday.

Tobia, 71, and his beagle, were found murdered during a welfare check at his residence, located at, 511 Kirk Ave, Carrick, Pittsburgh, PA. Police confirmed they are investigating the incident as a homicide.

Pittsburgh police found Ricardo J. Tobia, 71, and his beagle dead around 12:40 a.m. Saturday when officers were called to his house at 511 Kirk Ave. for a well-being check, authorities said. Officers checked the outside of the home and found the front door open. They entered the residence and discovered the bodies of Mr. Tobia and the dog inside. source

A motive has not been release in the killings.

Mr. Tobia was a private voice instructor at Point Park University, spokesman Lou Corsaro confirmed Monday. He had been a professor at the university for 35 years and worked part-time.
