SHERMAN OAKS, CA. (THECOUNT) — Tyler Honeycutt, a former UCLA star basketball player and former NBA Sacramento Kings team member, has been killed in a standoff with police in California, according to multiple reports.
According to LAPD, Honeycutt, 27, was involved in an “Officer-involved shooting” at Riverside Drive and Tyrone Avenue in trendy SoCal hotspot community, Sherman Oaks, Calif.
Police reported to Honeycutt’s residence at 5 p.m. local on Friday after Honeycutt’s mother called, saying her son was acting erratically. He reportedly opened fire on police, prompting return fire, before barricading himself inside. source
LAPD then reported that a SWAT team entered the residence to find Honeycutt.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Honeycutt played at UCLA in the 2009-10 and 2010-11 seasons, earning a spot on the Pac-10 all-freshman team in his first year. As a sophomore, he averaged 12.8 points, 2.8 assists and 7.2 rebounds a game, earning All-Pac-10 honors. He declared for the NBA after his sophomore campaign, getting drafted by the NBA’s Sacramento Kings.
The incident remains under investigation.
