BERLIN, MD. (THECOUNT) — Dongjin “DJ” Hong, of Hartford, Connecticut, has been identified as the man who drowned Wednesday at Assateague Island National Seashore, in Berlin, Maryland, authorities say.
Officers with the Maryland Department of Natural Resources say they received a call at 6:40 p.m. on Wednesday about a body floating face down off of North Ocean Beach.
A search effort, which included the National Park Service, DNR, Berlin EMS and ATV-patrolling park lifeguards, located the body of 36-year-old Hong at 7:34 p.m.
Searchers found the man’s body roughly 300 yards southeast of North Ocean Beach. The body was brought by DNR police boat to the DNR boathouse in West Ocean City, then taken to the Worcester County medical examiner’s office. The victim has since been identified as Dongjin Hong, 36. of Hartford, Connecticut. source
Hong was pronounced dead at the scene.
Initial autopsy results determined the cause of death to have been drowning.
The incident remains under investigation.
