LA Man Stephen Blackwell ID’d As Victim Killed In Auto Vs Motorcycle Rear-End Crash

ST. ROSE, LA. (THECOUNT) — Baton Rouge man, Stephen Blackwell, was identified as the victim following a violent rear-end auto-vs-motorcycle crash on Interstate 10, Friday afternoon, according to the Louisiana State Police.

Blackwell, 27, was operating a 2013 Harley Davidson motorcycle on Interstate 10 eastbound near milepost 217 in St. Charles Parish at 3:30 p.m., when the fatal four-vehicle crash occurred.

Police responded to calls of a crash involving four vehicles on Interstate 10 eastbound near milepost 217 in St. Charles Parish.

Troopers said Luis Enrique Caballero, of Kenner, was driving in a 2012 Toyota Highlander and traveling eastbound in the left lane at a high rate of speed. source

Caballero ignored slowing traffic and crashed into the rear of a 2014 Dodge Ram, driven by 71-year-old Aaron Smith Wordsworth of New Orleans. The impact sent the truck into the rear of Blackwell’s motorcycle.

Blackwell’s motorcycle was pushed forward into the rear of a 2016 Nissan Pickup driven by 25-year-old Joshua Hutton.

Blackwell was thrown from the motorcycle in the collision, LSP said.

He suffered blunt force trauma and was pronounced dead at the scene.

A report noted Blackwell wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

Investigators said Caballero suffered moderate injuries in the crash and was transported to an area hospital.

The other two drivers involved in the crash were uninjured.

Criminal charges against Caballero are pending and the incident was turned over to ICE agents for further investigation.

Officials do not believe alcohol played a role in the crash.
