WATERLOO, IA. (THECOUNT) — Waterloo man, Martavis “Pistol” Wise, is now facing enhanced charges after a 72-year-old apartment complex maintenance worker died in a hospital as a result of injuries incurred during a violent altercation with Wise.
Johannes Rodenburgh died at a hospital overnight Tuesday after being beaten and left with a broken neck last week. Wise, 27, is accused of attacking him.

On Wednesday, prosecutors upgraded charges against Wise while increasing his bond from $10,000 cash only to $1 million cash or surety.
Police said Wise repeatedly punched and kicked Rodenburgh on June 13, knocking him down and the slamming a bicycle on top of him. source
Wise was originally charged with willful injury causing serious injury, a felony that carries up to 10 years in prison upon conviction.
On Wednesday, prosecutors filed a trial information that added charges of going armed with intent and assault while participating in a felony while armed with a dangerous weapon. The new charges carry sentencing additional enhancements upon conviction.
Court records show the deadly weapon Wise is accused of using is the bicycle.
According to court records, Wise is a repeat violent offender who once attacked a Newton Correctional Facility prison guard, repeatedly punching him in the face and leaving his with facial lacerations.
