LAKE COUNTY, FL. (THECOUNT) – A 7-year-old boy is dead and three other children where injured in a collision involving a Dodge Caravan and a semi-truck on the Florida Turnpike in Lake County early Saturday morning.
Adrian Perez, of Ft. Pierce, died after a 2003 Dodge Caravan he was traveling in was rear-ended by an 18-wheeler near mile marker 290.
The Dodge then careened into a guardrail before coming to a stop on the right shoulder of the turnpike, troopers said.
Police later announced charges pending against the semi-truck driver, according to the crash report.
Perez was taken to Leesburg Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead.
Three other children in the car—ages 4, 6 and 9—were seriously injured and taken to Arnold Palmer Hospital, according to the crash report. source
The crash report said all the children were wearing their restraints.
The name and condition of the driver of the vehicle was not immediately provided.
Alcohol was not involved in the crash, the report states.
