Tom Westrich ID’d As WI Man Killed In Friday Morning Waunakee Triple-Fatal Head-On Crash

WAUNAKEE, Wis. (THECOUNT) — Authorities named Tom Westrich of Waunakee as one of three victims killed in a two-vehicle crash near the Town of Westport, Wisconsin, on Friday.

Westrich, 21, was operating a Mercedes Benz when the vehicle lost control and crossed over center lines in the direction of oncoming traffic.

In all, three people died in the two-vehicle traffic crash on WI-19 just west of River Road around 10:20 a.m Friday, according to the Dane County Sheriff’s Office.

According to authorities, a Mercedes Benz passenger car was observed driving recklessly at a high rate of speed while traveling eastbound on the gravel shoulder of WI-19 near Waunakee.

While attempting to pass other slower vehicles, the Mercedes Benz lost control, crossed the center line, and struck a minivan traveling westbound head-on, according to police. Two people in that vehicle were also killed.

Westrich was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Dane County Medical Examiner.

The two people in a Chrysler mini-van in the crash are 68-year-old Frank Lee Fundingsland and 64-year-old Lorraine C. Fundingsland of Pardeeville. Frank Fundingsland was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. Lorraine Fundingsland was transported to a local Madison hospital and died shortly after arrival, according to the Dane County Medical Examiner. The driver of a Mercedes Benz passenger car was 21-year-old Thomas G. Westrich of Waunakee. A death investigation has been opened by the Dane County Sheriff’s Office and the Dane County Medical Examiner’s Office.

According to Facebook, Westrich was a former student at Waunakee High School. He also studied at University of Wisconsin-Stout, according to Facebook.
