UPDATE: Police scanner traffic indicates that the suspect has been neutralized. (Original story:) Police are pursuing a man in the area of Diamond Avenue and North Kentucky, Evansville, IN., who shot at them and fled in a white pickup truck Friday night at about 9:30 p.m.
He is believed to be a white male with glasses, wearing boots and a gray t-shirt.
According to scanner traffic, the man had a semiautomatic rifle. He fired about a dozen shots when police arrived at a house near Diamond and Stringtown Road, behind the Little Caesar’s restaurant. All police units were called to respond. source
Police quickly shut down traffic on Diamond between Kentucky and Heidelbach.
The pursuit stopped in the 2500 block of North Kentucky. More shots were fired directly at the police from that area as they tried to pinpoint the shooter’s location. He also shot at random cars passing by in that area.
Adding to the confusion were fireworks coming from Bosse Field.
Scanner traffic later confirmed the man in the back yard of a house at 2457 Kentucky.
According to scanner traffic one car was shot traveling near Kentucky and Joan Avenue. One female officer said the man had shot at her car as she pursued him earlier.
