High Point, NC., police have arrested Alvin Smith, the North Carolina man wanted in a deadly domestic dispute.

Smith, 30, is alleged to have shot and killed wife and mother, Elizabeth Smith, 33, in front of their children, in a violent domestic dispute Monday night in the 1800 block of Blain Street, High Point, NC. The fatal shooting resulted in an hours-long standoff.

Police say they responded to Blain Street on calls of a domestic dispute. Upon arrival they observed a woman standing with children in the backyard of a residence.

As two officers approached the woman, Alvin Nathanael Smith exited the back of the house and shot Elizabeth Smith several times as the kids looked on in horror. He then re-entered the residence commencing an hours-long police standoff.

Officers were able to move the children, 9 and 3 years old, to safety as Elizabeth Smith, 33, was taken to an area hospital to receive treatment. She was later pronounced dead.

A tactical team and negotiators were called to the scene and attempted to make contact with Alvin Smith, who was still believed to be inside the home.

Around 4 a.m., a search of the home was conducted and showed that Alvin Smith had fled the scene.

He was later located and arrested with out further incident. No further details on the arrest were made available.
