HAZMAT teams are on the scene of a double-fatal hazardous material situation at the Motel 6, located on Blackstone in North Fresno, after employees reported finding two people dead in a room.
Fresno police say that hotel housekeeping entered a room and observed the victims deceased in a bathroom. They were then overwhelmed chemical fumes, later identified to be sulfuric acid.
The employees then fled the room and contacted 911.
When the Fresno Fire Department arrived, they entered the room wearing protective gear and found two people dead in the bathroom, with respirators. Not much more is known at this time because the fire department determined that it was too dangerous to remain in the room. They left the doors open and are now allowing the room to air out. source
Authorities say that the deaths may be a suicide or a murder-suicide, because of the chemical used and the items seen in the room. He added that at this time, they don’t know for sure, because investigators can’t come into the room.
