Greene County, AR., man, James Hoey, was arrested after he put a little something extra in the envelope containing his water bill payment. 7.1 grams of high quality crystal meth.
Workers with the Western Greene County Water Department made the discovery of a white “rock like” substance contained within an envelope while processing customer payments deposited in the building’s outside dropbox on Monday, March 19.
Employees told officials a plain white envelope was found in the after-hours drop deposit box and “when they opened the envelope to retrieve the payment, they found a crystal-like rock inside.” The substance was deemed to be methamphetamines.
Deputies traced the payment back to Hoey and paid him a visit. A search of his residence turned up 38 grams of crystal methamphetamine, 96 grams of marijuana, scales, and other drug paraphernalia, according to the Greene County Sheriff’s Office.
“Check your bills for contraband before you put them in the dropbox,” Greene County Sheriff David Carter warned other potential criminals.
Deputies transported Hoey to the Greene County Detention Center and booked him on charges of possession of crystal methamphetamine with purpose to deliver, possession of schedule IV or V with purpose to deliver, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
