Andrew Dorogi Family Comments On Amherst College Student Who Died Under Mysterious Circumstances While In Mexico

Andrew Dorogi, a 21-year-old Amherst College student who died under unexplained circumstances, is being remembered by his family.

Dorogi, of Fairview Park, Ohio, died while in Mexico City on Friday, officials at Amherst and the U.S. State Department confirmed on Wednesday. Officials have not released the cause, or circumstances, of his death.

Dorogi’s relatives, who penned his recent obituary, (below,) are saying that the college senior and football player had accepted a position as an Investment Banking Analyst at Wells Fargo, which he was due to start in June.

Andrew Michael Dorogi, 21, of Fairview Park, passed away on March 16, 2018. Beloved son of John and Jonetta (Kapusta) Dorogi; loving brother of Allison H. Dorogi and Megan J. Dorogi; cherished grandson of Helen (John T. deceased) Kapusta; Mary Lou and Joseph Dorogi, and dear nephew of Janine (Scott) Pape, and Mary (John) Christensen; cousin of John, Maria, and Mark Pape and John, Laura, and Jeff Christensen. He was preceded in death by uncles David and Joey Dorogi.

Andrew was an economics major at Amherst College in Massachusetts, Class of 2018. He was a running back on the Amherst Football team. He was a member of the Amherst College Finance Club and Amherst LEADS. Andrew studied abroad in Rome, Italy his junior year, traveling extensively through Europe with his best friends.

He accepted a position as an Investment Banking Analyst at Wells Fargo starting in June 2018. Andrew was a 2014 graduate of University School enrolled in an advanced STEM Curriculum and was a Strnad Fellow. In 2014, he was selected to the Cleveland Leadership Academy. While at US, he was a member of the US football team and named a National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete. He was also a defenseman on the US hockey team and selected to the All Ohio hockey team. He was a US Males acapella and glee club member, and a baritone in the Cleveland Orchestra Youth Chorus. Andrew also volunteered for Hope for Honduran Children Foundation.

Andrew attended Ruffing Montessori school and was a member of the St. Angela Youth Ministry (YOSA), a server for St. Angela through high school and a member of the St. Angela Bruins football team. Andrew began playing hockey at age 3 while living in Toronto, Canada.

Andrew’s smile radiated the joy and faith with which he lived his life. We will always remember his wit, intelligence, athleticism and kind heart.

We will forever treasure the blessing of our time with Andrew, and the precious memories of how he enriched our lives and fortified our spirits.

Visitation will be held on Friday, March 23, 2018 from 3-9 PM in the Chapel at Sunset Memorial Park, 6245 Columbia Road, North Olmsted, OH 44070. Please meet at St. Angela’s Catholic Church, 20970 Lorain Road, Cleveland, OH 44126, for his funeral service on Saturday, March 24, 2018 at 11:45 AM. A graveside service to follow at Sunset Memorial Park, 6265 Columbia Road, North Olmsted, OH 44070. Gifts in Andrew’s memory can be made to the University School Scholarship Fund, 2785 SOM Center Road, Hunting Valley, Ohio 44022.

His funeral services are planned for Saturday in Ohio.
