Bryan Liles has been named as as the Salt Lake City man shot dead in a federal officer-involved shooting in Sandy.
Bryan Keith Liles, 31, was identified as the victim shot dead just before 5 p.m., after officers responded the area of 180 East 8960 South on reports of shots fired Tuesday evening.
Sandy police say an Alcohol Tobacco Firearms and Explosives (ATF) Task Force, comprised of federal and local law enforcement agents, was tracking an individual to serve a federal arrest warrant. Lt. Dean Carriger with Sandy City Police Department said the agents tracked the man to the area near the Sandy TRAX station. The suspect at this time was in a vehicle. When officers made contact, “based on some actions of the suspect, shots were fired by officers attempting to serve the warrant,” said Carriger. source
Liles was struck multiple times. He was taken to Intermountain Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead.
There were multiple people in the vehicle at the time of the shooting. The only person injured was the suspect. The other occupants were detained and interviewed by police.
No officers were injured in the incident. An officer-involved shooting team will investigate the incident further per protocol when deadly force is used.
