State Police have released the names of the two students killed during last night’s fatal crash in Vermilion Parish. The crash occurred Sunday, February 4, 2018, shortly after 7:30 pm.
20-year-old Tyler J. Meaux was arrested and charged with two counts of vehicular homicide, first degree vehicular negligent injuring, reckless operation of a vehicle, and hit and run driving, after hitting the vehicle of 16-year-old Alana Duhon of Abbeville and 15-year-old Sydney Colomb of Maurice head-on.

State police say that Meaux was traveling south in the northbound lanes of US Hwy 167 in a 2013 Ford F-150 when he struck Duhon’s vehicle, a 2012 Honda Civic, that was traveling north in the left lane of US Hwy 167. Duhon was restrained at the time of the accident, but State police say she sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash. Colomb who was a passenger in the rear of the car was unrestrained and Troopers say she received fatal injuries as a result of the crash. Two male passengers in the Civic were taken to Lafayette General Medical Center with moderate injuries. Troopers say that at the time of the crash Meaux was unrestrained, but received only minor injuries. After the crash, troopers say Meaux fled the scene on foot and was located a short time later. Meaux was arrested and booked into the Vermilion Parish Jail for two counts of vehicular homicide, first degree vehicular negligent injuring, reckless operation of a vehicle, and hit and run driving.source
Impairment, on Meaux’s part, is believed by state police to be a contributor to the crash.
