Irvine police arrested a teen they say is wanted in connection with a string of sexual battery cases against female joggers and one attempted rape at Jeffrey Open Space Trail in Irvine, CA.
Keenan Al-Sayed Ahmad, 18, was taken in custody Friday being accused of groping a jogger on the Jeffrey Open Space Trail. Police said Ahmad was traveling on a skateboard at the time of the assaults.
Police said investigators had been seeking a suspect since December who approached at least two other women who were out jogging on a skateboard. One victim was groped and the other was shoved to the ground, then had her mouth covered by the suspect. According to police, the suspect fled after he was unable to stifle the woman’s screams. As he fled, the suspect touched the victim in a sexual manner, police said. source
Police said they will seek charges of sexual battery and felony assault with intent to rape against Ahmad.
Police continue to investigate the case. Anyone with information is asked to contact Irvine Police Department Detective Keith Herter at 949-724-7183 or kherter@cityofirvine.org.
