The incident took place on Jan. 6 at approximately 3:30 p.m. on West Ormsby Avenue, near South 23rd Street, says the Metro Police Department.

Police say Newsome had been at her neighbor’s home, where she prepared scrambled eggs. Later in the day, Hamblen Jr., the boyfriend of that neighbor, began arguing with Newsome over the food. While Newsome and her roommate were inside Newsome’s home, police say Hamblen walked in with a skillet containing the eggs and dumped them on the floor, demanding that Newsome clean them up. He then left. source

Police say Hamblen returned a short time later and fired 10 shots at Newsome’s “pelvis and vagina area.”

LMPD Spokesperson Vadim Dale said that when police arrived, Newsome was found in the doorway of her home with several gunshot wounds. She died at University Hospital.

A warrant was issued for Hamblen’s arrest on Monday, Jan. 15, and he was taken into custody on Jan. 18. He’s charged with murder, tampering with physical evidence and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon.

Hamblen is currently being held in Louisville Metro Corrections.
